Choose a date, arrival slot and eligibility category before buying. Smooth entry at the gate does not mean priority inside the keep, so leave room before your return train.

Who this guide is for: Families visiting Himeji Castle and Kokoen on the same day

Use the official nonresident purchasing guidance. Ask the operator about child verification if online authentication is unavailable; a digital ticket does not remove keep queues.

Distinguish general, resident and child eligibility

General adult entry is ¥2,500; adults with an address in Himeji pay ¥1,000. Residency is not a nationality category. Under-18 entry is free, including the period through the first 31 March after turning 18. Check eligibility and proof together.

Check online verification for children

The city links separate resident and nonresident purchase routes. It requires the eligible person’s MyNumber card for online resident/under-18 verification. An online free-ticket process for foreign children without that card remains unconfirmed. The counter-proof examples include student identification and official documents; do not assume a foreign passport alone is accepted. Ask before purchase.

Separate the booked date from keep queues

Digital arrival slots run 09:00–15:30 in 30-minute steps and do not guarantee priority inside. The ¥2,600 castle/Kokoen combination is valid at both sites on the booked date. A castle visit usually takes 90–120 minutes plus possible waiting. Last entry is 16:00 and closing 17:00.

Prepare changes, bags and indoor footwear

Change numbers or dates by cancelling and buying again. Cancellation is available only for unused digital tickets within validity through the account; it is unavailable after QR scanning. Check the selected seller’s refund terms. Put wheeled bags in paid lockers, subject to fit and availability. Bring a shoe bag and socks for buildings where outdoor shoes are prohibited. Stairs are steep and building interiors do not accommodate wheelchair visits.

Common questions

Does a digital ticket remove the keep queue?

No. It helps gate entry but does not guarantee priority viewing inside.

Can foreign children without MyNumber cards obtain free tickets online?

The official pages checked do not establish that process. Ask the operator about eligibility verification and counter handling before buying.
