Since April 2026, admission is free for high-school pupils and younger children. Check student status rather than age alone, then allow time before last admission and review exhibition works for your date.

Check student eligibility, not age alone

From 1 April 2026, high-school pupils and younger children enter free; general admission is 200 yen. The city’s 15+ general category excludes junior- and high-school pupils. Bring student identification or equivalent evidence. Group prices were abolished: old 100 yen student or 160 yen group listings are outdated. Two general visitors with two eligible free pupils pay 400 yen for the permanent exhibition.

Last admission differs from closing

April and September–March hours are 08:30–17:30, last entry 17:00. May–August closes 18:30 with last entry 18:00; August 7–9 closes 20:00 with last entry 19:30. Closed 29–31 December. Library and hall hours differ. Arriving at the cutoff does not leave a full visit.

Check works by date and exhibition area

The notice updated 7 September lists partial AreaA works for 10 September–10 October. Passing that planned end date does not verify reopening. AreaC is scheduled 24 November–March 2027, part ofB from lateDecember–March andD fromJanuary–March. Plans can change. The operator says areas outside the works remain open; check current notices for your visit.

The tram stop is separate from the museum entrance

The tram operator shows Akasako-bound routes 1 or 3 from Nagasakiekimae to Genbaku Shiryokan. Museum access guidance adds an approximately five-minute walk. Allow for waiting, crossings and assistance. The pink building in the 2018 photo is Nagasaki Seiyokan, not the museum; the scene does not establish current vehicles or surrounding buildings.

Prepare language support and recording rules

Major captions include Korean, English, Japanese and Chinese, with some only Japanese/English. Audio guides including Korean cost 160 yen each and cannot be reserved. Flash, tripods and selfie sticks are prohibited; close-ups of individual objects need permission, and some named works prohibit recording. Follow onsite signs. Audio hire is separate from admission.

Separate individual visits from group attendance notices

The operator says ordinary visits need no reservation but asks groups of 10+ and advance inspection visitors to submit intended attendance. This is not a booking requirement for every traveller or a guarantee of priority entry. Check onsite procedures for your group and eligible free visitors.

Common questions

Does a 15-year-old pupil pay 200 yen?

The city excludes junior- and high-school pupils from its 15+ general category. Check school eligibility and identification requirements.

Is the entire museum closed for works?

The operator says areas outside staged works remain open. Do not assume a particular area reopened solely from its planned end date.
