A mu ticket does not replace the basic railway ticket from the airport to the city. Choose your train and car first, then decide whether to pay for a reserved first-class seat or use an ordinary car.

Who this guide is for: Travelers choosing whether to pay for a reserved seat from Centrair toward Nagoya
All μSKY cars are first class. On a mixed rapid limited-express or limited-express train, distinguish ordinary from first-class cars. First class requires the basic railway fare plus a ¥450 mu ticket for the specified date, train, journey section and seat.
Compare at a glance
| Option | Best fit | Check before booking |
|---|---|---|
| μSKY | Basic fare + mu ticket | All cars first class |
| Ordinary car on a mixed limited express | Basic fare | Actual ordinary-car position |
| First class on a mixed limited express | Basic fare + mu ticket | Specified date, train, journey section and seat |
Separate the fare from the seat supplement
The ¥450 mu ticket is a seat supplement, not the entire airport journey fare. Look up the basic fare for your actual origin and destination and add the supplement if choosing first class. This guide does not give one total price or travel time for every destination and service.
Choose a train you can reach after arrival
The official guide says a mu ticket becomes invalid after its specified train departs, with no change or refund if you miss boarding. Landing time is not platform arrival: allow for immigration, baggage collection and the walk to the station before choosing a train you can reach.
Onboard payment may mean standing
If you pay for first class onboard without purchasing beforehand, the charge is ¥500. The conductor can allocate a seat when one is available and a reservation is possible; a fully booked train can require standing. Confirm a reserved seat before departure if sitting matters.
Check children’s seats and car signs
A child under six occupying a first-class seat needs both a child railway ticket and a mu ticket. At the airport station, follow the current train display and car stopping signs. Car types can change, so the historical photograph is not evidence of today’s formation or platform arrangement.
