A fast airport journey and a reserved seat are separate choices. Decide between ordinary seating and a reserved u-seat, then check the stops and departure time for your date. A seat reservation does not replace the basic fare.

Who this guide is for: Travelers comparing ordinary seating, reserved u-seats and luggage space on NewChitose airport trains

Choose ordinary seating if standing is acceptable,or compare a u-seat for an assigned seat. Check actual luggage-space availability and allow separate station-to-terminal time before airline deadlines.

Add the seat charge to the fare

The official airport guide lists a 1,000-yen u-seat charge or an 800-yen ticketless reservation, in addition to the fare. Check the train and segment covered by your purchase. Do not apply an old limited-period discount as the regular price.

Check stops before comparing speed

Special rapid, rapid and section rapid trains have different stopping patterns. If your hotel is in Chitose town, check whether your chosen train stops at Chitose station. A fastest advertised journey is not the time for every service.

Plan luggage and airline deadlines separately

The rolling-stock guide describes large luggage spaces as available to anyone when empty. Reserving a seat does not reserve a luggage slot. The equipment guide is dated March 2024 and notes that actual trains may differ; check the vehicle information on your travel day.

Common questions

Does an IC fare give me a u-seat?

No. Paying the basic fare and reserving a seat are separate. Have a valid reservation for reserved seating.

Does u-seat guarantee a suitcase slot?

No. The official guide describes shared luggage spaces available when empty; a seat reservation does not reserve that space.
