Decide whether you will stay around Nikko’s temples and shrines or travel toward Lake Chuzenji and the mountains before choosing a pass. The two NIKKO PASS products have different validity periods and bus coverage; limited-express travel and attraction admission are separate.

List your destinations before choosing from a hotel name

Even with accommodation near Nikko Station, repeated trips toward the mountain lakes change the transport coverage you need. List whether you will visit only temples and shrines or also Lake Chuzenji and hot-spring areas. Accommodation comparisons help with room and location choices, but do not define a pass’s bus boundaries. Mark your destinations on the pass map and check inclusion.

World Heritage Area lasts two days; All Area lasts four

The original guide checked Tobu’s official pages on October 4, 2026: World Heritage Area cost ¥3,000 for adults and ¥1,500 for children; All Area cost ¥8,000 for adults and ¥4,000 for children. Their validity periods are two and four days respectively. Compare included journeys and individual fares rather than choosing the larger pass solely from trip length. Recheck current prices and eligibility when purchasing.

Add limited-express tickets and attraction admission

Both passes require a separate limited-express ticket for limited-express travel and exclude admission to Nikko’s shrines and temples. If you plan to use limited-express trains, the pass price alone is not your full transport budget. Add return limited-express seats, attraction tickets and excluded journeys separately. A facility discount is different from free admission; check its conditions.

Check operating dates even for included services

All Area guidance includes seasonal services such as Lake Chuzenji sightseeing cruises. Check operation on your visit date and bus connections separately. The source-reviewed Tobu notice states that the Akechidaira Ropeway is suspended for construction from January 16, 2026 to August 31, 2027. Do not copy the ropeway into an itinerary from an earlier trip; leave time for departure and return travel.

Common questions

Does All Area include free temple admission?

No. Official guidance excludes temple and shrine admission, and limited-express tickets are also separate.

Is World Heritage Area automatically right for two days in Nikko?

Compare the places you will visit and actual bus use, rather than choosing by accommodation duration alone.
