Plan daytime house visits and scheduled evening illuminations separately at Hida Folk Village. A late event closing time does not mean the city loop bus runs equally late. Choose your return to the hotel before committing to an evening visit.

Autumn does not mean every evening

The autumn illumination runs on Saturdays, Sundays and Japanese public holidays from 10 October to 8 November 2026. Friday 16 October, the review date, is therefore outside that regular schedule. Christmas is listed for 19–25 December, with winter dates of 9 January–28 February 2027. Event hours are 17:30–20:30; recheck your date’s notice.

Check daytime and evening ticket coverage

Normal opening is 08:30–17:00 daily, with adult admission ¥700 and elementary/junior-high admission ¥200. The homepage lists illumination admission at ¥300 for adults and ¥100 for children, with free parking during event hours. Daytime-ticket validity for the evening and staying inside through the 17:00–17:30 gap were not established by this review; ask the counter.

The regular Sarubobo bus is not an evening return

The current Nohi timetable lists the final first pass at Hida no Sato stop S4 at 17:09; the final second pass after the longer loop is 16:29. Neither provides a return after illumination begins at 17:30. Check for a separately announced event bus, or arrange a taxi, car or another suitable return. Do not treat a bus ticket as including a night shuttle.

Two different bundles serve different plans

The access page describes a Hida no Sato set combining admission with a return journey from the bus centre. A separate combination ticket covers the village and Hida Takayama Museum of Art: adult ¥2,500, valid three days from purchase and sold at both counters. Do not assume that combination includes buses or night admission; confirm the product you need.

Allow longer for house interiors

The official FAQ estimates roughly 40–60 minutes for a walk taking in scenery and selected houses. Detailed interiors and bus waiting need extra time. There is no on-site restaurant, so place a meal before or after the visit and wear clothing and shoes suitable for outdoor walking.

Check winter mobility assistance

Loan wheelchairs and mobility vehicles have limited availability; the FAQ says loans are unavailable during snowy December–March. Ask about arrangements for your actual date if assistance is essential. The photograph records a February 2018 winter illumination, not this year’s foliage, snow or lighting design.

Common questions

Is the autumn illumination held every day?

No. The published 2026 schedule is weekends and Japanese public holidays within 10 October–8 November. Do not add a weekday evening automatically.

Does a city bus ticket ensure a night return?

No. The regular Sarubobo timetable provides no return after illumination begins. Check any special service or arrange a separate return.
