Kokura airport buses have different stopping patterns. The Kusami station bus and onward JR train form another route. Choose your destination and travel date before comparing stops, payment and timetables.

Who this guide is for: Individual travellers going between Kitakyushu Airport and Kokura or comparing a Kusami rail transfer
The airport route map lists ¥710 to Kokura and ¥540 for the Kusami bus. Airport stand 1 serves Kokura; stand 2 serves Kusami. Airport-bound buses use Kokura Station Bus Center stand 8. Check stopping patterns and the October 25 timetable boundary.
Compare at a glance
| Option | Best fit | Check before booking |
|---|---|---|
| Kokura non-stop or via Nakatani | Kokura ¥710; airport stand 1 | 33 minutes is a fastest-time figure; via services skip the Shinkansen exit |
| Kusami bus and onward JR | Bus ¥540; airport stand 2 | Add the separate JR fare and transfer time |
| Kokura to airport | Station Bus Center stand 8 | Kokura Castle Exit side, not the Shinkansen exit |
Choose non-stop or via Nakatani for your destination
The airport route map lists ¥710 to Kokura and fastest times of 33 minutes non-stop or 55 minutes via Nakatani. These are not universal journey times and exclude immigration, baggage collection and waiting. A via service may suit an intermediate stop, but a Shinkansen connection also requires checking where the bus actually drops you and allowing walking time.
Separate airport stands 1 and 2 from Kokura stand 8
The airport map assigns stand 1 to Kokura, stand 2 to Kusami station and stand 3 to Kurosaki/Orio. For the return trip, use Kokura Station Bus Center stand 8 on the Kokura Castle Exit side. Airport-origin Nakatani services show no stop in the Shinkansen-exit column. A footnote assigns blue late-night rows to the station-front bus stop; do not assume the daytime drop-off location.
Read the correct side of the October 25 change
The current Kokura tables cover 29 March–24 October 2026. The revised PDF covers 25 October 2026–27 March 2027. Match the date, direction, non-stop or via row and destination column. Do not use the winter table for a 20 October departure. Flight-related changes can alter the schedule; check the operator again on your departure date.
The ¥540 Kusami bus is not the whole rail journey
The current airport map lists ¥540 and a fastest 17 minutes to Kusami station. Add the JR fare and transfer time to reach Kokura. Separately, JR Kyushu’s my route airport ticket lists ¥710 one way from Kokura, combining the Kusami rail segment and airport bus. It is an app product, not a station-counter fare, and covers the specified local/rapid trains and limited-express unreserved seats, excluding Shinkansen. Compare complete routes, not the bus-only price with a combined ticket.
Transport IC and bankcard contactless have different scope
The operator lists cash and transport IC such as nimoca, Suica and PASMO. Bankcard contactless is explicitly offered on Kokura and Orio/Kurosaki services; do not extend that claim to Kusami route 51. Touch the same supported card, or device configured with that card, when boarding and alighting. Bring suitable cash: the airport says ¥5,000 and ¥10,000 notes cannot be changed on board.
Prepayment does not reserve a seat
Airport buses are not reservable, and a full service may refuse boarding. Treat the operator’s prepaid digital ticket separately from seat availability. Leave time for queues and disruption before onward trains or other transport. Suikotei’s photograph shows a Kokura-bound bus on 23 September 2017. Its vehicle, stop sign and timetable do not establish today’s operations; follow current notices.

Common questions
Do all Kokura buses stop at the Shinkansen exit?
No. The checked Nakatani tables show no stop in that column. Check the separate late-night footnote too.
Can I use bankcard contactless on Kusami route 51?
The checked bankcard scope names Kokura and Orio/Kurosaki. Do not assume that it includes Kusami route 51.
Does a prepaid digital ticket reserve a seat?
No seat reservation follows from prepayment. The operator describes the buses as non-reservable and warns that full services may refuse boarding.
