Castle-only and combo admission
Castle interiors cost ¥500 for individual visitors aged 18+. Under-18s enter free with proof such as student ID. The same-day museum combo costs ¥1,040 during special exhibitions, otherwise ¥800.
Check the museum exhibition period
Museum-only admission is ¥800 during special exhibitions, otherwise ¥500. Buying both separately costs ¥1,300/¥1,000, versus combos at ¥1,040/¥800. This comparison assumes both visits. The museum’s high-school-and-younger exemption differs from the castle’s under-18 wording; check each proof requirement.
The cutoffs differ
Castle: 09:00–17:00, last entry 16:30; closed 26 December–1 January. Museum: 09:00–18:00, Sundays from 08:00; exhibition entry ends 17:30, closed 27 December–1 January. Event extensions do not establish nightly interior access.
Plan for stairs and slopes
The castle FAQ lists 158 steps from Ote-mon to Honmaru and 40 inside the keep. Steep gravel paths make independent wheelchair access very difficult. Read the operator’s access guidance and arrange advice beforehand if assistance is needed.
Collect bags before 17:00
The Ote-mon-square lockers operate 08:45–17:00 with a refundable ¥100 coin. Bags cannot be retrieved after hours. If staying later at the museum, collect bags first. Vacancy and large-suitcase capacity are not guaranteed.
Night walks are separate from interior admission
The FAQ describes round-the-clock park access outside Honmaru, not an open keep. Plan evening exterior viewing separately from daytime paid interiors, with return transport and baggage pickup in mind.
