Seeing Phoenix Hall from the garden and visiting its interior use different admission arrangements. After garden admission, secure an interior timed ticket onsite first, then fit the museum and garden around that appointment.

Budget for two separate admissions

Standard garden and Hoshokan museum admission costs 700 yen for adults, 400 yen for junior/high-school students and 300 yen for elementary-school children. There is no cheaper garden-only ticket. An interior visit adds 300 yen per person. Adult admission plus an interior visit therefore totals 1,000 yen; paying garden admission does not secure an interior slot.

Request an interior time onsite

The reception inside the garden opens at 9:10. Only same-day onsite requests are accepted, first come until tickets run out; advance, phone and email reservations are unavailable. One representative may buy for the group. Arrive five minutes before the assigned start. Narration is in Japanese; ask reception for printed information in English or another available language.

Check the October 15/16 change

Through October 15, 2026, summer arrangements limit each visit to 30 people and suspend the 10:30, 11:30, 12:30, 13:30, 14:30 and 15:30 sessions. From October 16 capacity changes to 35. Use the dated notices rather than the generic 50-person listing or the 20-person figure on the English interior page. Ceremonies and events can interrupt interior visits.

Separate waiting time from last admission

Garden hours are 8:45–17:30, with admission ending 17:15. Museum hours are 9:00–17:00, with admission ending 16:45. Interior tickets can sell out earlier. While waiting, interior-ticket holders may show their tickets to staff to leave and reenter; this exception ends after their interior visit. Missing the meeting time does not entitle you to a time change or refund. The temple provides no visitor parking; check nearby paid parking separately.

Common questions

Can I reserve an interior time online or by phone?

No. Reception inside the garden takes same-day onsite requests from 9:10, first come until sold out. One representative may buy the party’s tickets.

Does the adult ¥700 admission include the interior?

It covers the garden and Hoshokan. An interior ticket adds ¥300, giving an adult total of ¥1,000 if a slot is available; admission does not guarantee that slot.

Can I leave for a meal while waiting?

Waiting interior-ticket holders can show their ticket at reception for re-entry. The exception ends after their interior visit. Return five minutes before the start; missing the time does not entitle you to a change or refund.
