Choose your entry route before finishing a walk around the Tottori dunes. The sub gate on the observation-parking side has shorter hours than the main entrance. Your ticket choice also depends on whether you will return during this exhibition.

Who this guide is for: Visitors combining the dunes with the museum and deciding whether to return during the same exhibition

Use the main gate as your reference for cash purchases and late arrival. The repeat-visit pass ends with the exhibition, rather than lasting a year from purchase.

Check the exhibition dates first

The 17th exhibition, Spain, runs from 24 April 2026 to 3 January 2027. It is scheduled to open daily during that run, including the year-end holidays. The museum closes between exhibitions for preparation; do not assume the next opening date.

Separate museum hours from sub-gate hours

The museum opens 09:00–18:00, with last entry at 17:30. The observation-parking sub gate operates 10:00–15:00 on weekdays and 09:00–16:00 on weekends and public holidays. Events can change those hours. Check the return route from the dunes as well as the day’s notice.

Bring cash to the main gate

The sub gate accepts cards, electronic money, QR payments, online tickets and listed vouchers, but no cash. If you only have cash, head to the main entrance. Holding an online ticket does not extend the sub gate’s opening hours.

Consider the pass for repeat visits in this exhibition

The pass costs ¥1,400 for adults or ¥700 for elementary, junior-high and high-school pupils. Two regular tickets total ¥1,600 or ¥800 respectively. The signed holder alone may use it; transfer, lending and resale are prohibited, and identification may be requested. Apply at the shop and allow processing time.

An indoor gallery still needs seasonal clothing

For preservation, the gallery temperature remains close to outside conditions. Dress warmly in winter. Elevators serve the interior, but the sub-gate route includes an outdoor slope; consider the main entrance in poor weather.

Check photography rules before sharing

Personal travel photography and commercial image use have different conditions. Unauthorised monetised use of artwork photographs and live streaming are prohibited; tripods and selfie sticks are restricted too. This article uses a 2021 exterior sign-and-building photograph, not an image of the current Spain exhibition or current ticket arrangements.
